ESPN’s “JIMMY V WEEK” WINS 2010 MOST POSITIVE SPORTS BUSINESS PLATFORM”
ESPN’s “Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research” won the inaugural “2010 Most Positive Sports Business Platform in the World” at the V Foundation Board of Directors event honoring ESPN employees at their headquarters in Bristol, CT.
The 2010 Positive Peace Award nominees are judged by a Voting Academy comprised of highly respected international organizations such as Rotary International and Sister Cities International. The Voting Academy criteria to determine this year’s winner evaluated the network’s commitment to create a positive influence on the viewers, as well as a tangible impact for those in need.
“Sister Cities International would like to congratulate ESPN for using special content across all of their U.S. media platforms to drive donations to The V Foundation for Cancer Research”, said Brad Cole, Chairman of Sister Cities International. “ESPN’s commitment to giving back to the community has inspired sports fans from all over the world to participate in the battle against this horrible disease”.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $100 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide.
In appreciation, ESPN President George Bodenheimer said, “Our ESPN employees inspire us year round with their passion and efforts for The V Foundation and cancer research. For them to be honored through a voting process by such prestigious organizations worldwide is especially meaningful. This award will reside in a place on campus for all to see.”
