MEET VOTING ACADEMY MEMBER JUNIOR CHAMBER INTERNATIONAL (JCI)

The newest member of the International Voting Academy is no stranger to celebrating positivity on a global basis. The JCI is a membership-based nonprofit organization of 200,000 young people ages 18 to 40 in 5,000 communities and more than 100 countries around the world. Each JCI Member shares the belief that in order to create lasting POSITIVE change, they must improve themselves and the world around them.
JCI grew out of the vision of one St. Louisan more than 90 years ago as a constructive approach to civic problems. Founded in 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA by Henry Giessenbier, the movement spread, and Junior Chamber International was founded with eight other countries in 1944. Since that time, JCI has sought targeted solutions to the unique problems in our communities to build a better world, creating global impact.
In 2011, JCI will embark on an exciting, ambitious journey to empower individuals to take action and work toward the change the world needs to achieve global peace. To advance this cause and the JCI Mission and Vision, they are committed to three fundamental areas in which JCI members will concentrate their efforts:
The UN Millennium Development Goals - Since the 2003 JCI Leadership Summit at the United Nations in New York, JCI has been committed to creating positive change within the framework of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UN MDGs). These eight objectives provide a comprehensive list of areas of vital concern for nations around the world.
A World of Citizens - As globalization increases and the unilateral efforts of nations are unable to provide peace, young active citizens must take initiative to ensure that communities are developed and progress is made beyond national boundaries and government bureaucracies.
This Citizens’ Initiative embodies the idea that positive change in the world will be brought about by the actions of individuals.
Moving Forward as One Global Team - Though the impact of one individual is a powerful force, the impact of many young active citizens working in unison to create positive change in thousands of communities across the world is even stronger. JCI members are united by their commitment to increase the reach of their programs and raise the visibility of our organization, all while helping the world Be Better.
